Community volunteers are key to successful schools. Volunteers provide the hearts and hands that fill in the holes to meet the diverse needs of our children. Large scale citizen engagement produces many additional benefits: teachers are encouraged, students succeed, school facilities are enhanced, a community pulls together, all in the effort of educating our kids...together. A natural accountability occurs when citizens and educators share the responsibility and work side by side to give each child an opportunity to: 1. Perform at grade level in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics and; 2. Understand fundamental character traits necessary to become good citizens and stewards of our community.
Volunteers meet with a student one hour a week during school hours, on school grounds to work on a specific learning objective identified by the classroom teacher.
Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.
